As a way to give back to those who helped our family during my sister's four continuous years of cancer treatments, we "pay it forward" by donating scholarships and holding events. It also allows us to honor my sister too. Recently, my parents gave a $1,000 scholarship to a Heidelberg University student. Soon we will present more at Christi's former school and dance studio. Additionally, we hold an annual Easter Egg Hunt at Tiffin University. I enjoy working with the college students and thank them for their volunteerism. Hundreds of children from our town and surrounding areas always attend the event. Christi always loved it.......and I did too!
I was glad to help out at Mansfield's Easter egg hunt. The kids were adorable and it was fun to help them find the eggs. At the event we all had a good time listening to Disney music and playing with the Easter bunny. Many other title holders came, and at the end we were treated to a ride in the bucket lift of a fire truck. The lift extends 100 ft! I'm so honored to be involved in the Mansfield community. Thanks, everyone!
It was great to be back in Mansfield for the Spring Forum last weekend. We received the information we need to have for Miss Ohio week which will be here in about 60 days. I enjoyed catching up with all of the other teens, having lunch with my "sister-queens" (Miss Mansfield - Erin Curry and Miss North Central Ohio - Jenna DiPizzo) and my sweet director, Laura Russell. My thanks to Miss Mansfield Board Director, Paige Bishop for serving as my chaperone! To my fellow teens, "I can't wait to be with you all again soon! You are sooooooooo much fun!"
I had a ball at BGSU's Dance Marathon on Saturday! It was great to perform for hundreds of college students and to share my story with others. The amazing students raised $275,484.33 for CMN! If you'd like to listen to our family's story and watch a bit of my dance, check out the coverage by the campus TV news crew:
I'm so thrilled to be invited back to BGSU's Dance Maraton as a preformer! Dance Marathon serves as a huge fundraiser for the Children's Miracle Network - CMN. Last year I had a ball hanging out with the college kids and meeting the miracle children. The silly outfits and team chants keep the energy high as the students stay on their feet all 32 hours. What an exciting fundraiser! I can't wait to dance there and help out soon!
Spring Break brought a trip to NYC! Shea Sullivan, a Broadway Choreographer, and her assistant choreographed a new musical theater jazz routine on pointe for me. I was surprised to also meet Miss America's Outstanding Teen 2008 (Caitlin Brunell, also a ballet dancer) while we were at Pearl Studios with Shea. During our time in NYC we also toured New York University, saw two Broadway shows and spent time with our friends who've also lost family members to neroblastoma. I brought buckeye candies to the Solving Kids Cancer office as a gift from "The Buckeye State." It's amazing how every trip to NYC brings something new! I sure love that fine city!
Mike DeWine, a former Sentor, Congressman, Prosecutor and our current Ohio Attorney General came to our town. Having an interest in politics, I wanted to talk to him. On our way to dance class we attended his fundraiser and listened to him speak and also chatted with him one-on-one about school.
