Merry Christmas! I hope you are filled with the peace and joy this day brings me. This year I'm very blessed to celebrate Christmas with my nuclear family as well as both sides of my extended family. It's so refreshing to have time to just focus people. However you are celebrating the day, I hope God's love is with you!
I've seen the Nutcracker many times, but never dreamed I'd be apart of it. This year The Chicago Festival Ballet came to the Ritz to preform the Nutcracker; however, they needed local dancers to fill in minor roles. It was a good thing too, because I loved being a toy solider! My favorite part was when the Nutcracker and Mouse King are fighting, and both lost their swords. I was privileged to dutifully return the lost sword to the Nutcracker! The experience really shaped my perspective on dance by helping me to see movement as a way to tell a story, similar to how actors use their bodies. I hope you're getting as excited for Christmas as I am!
This Thanksgiving our band loaded up to march in Chicago's parade. The day of the parade was terribly cold. We did lots of dancing to stay warm! Aside from the parade, we visited the Shedd Aquarium and the Field Museum. We went on a river boat tour, shopped on Miracle Mile and saw the Blue Man Group. Another highlight was the formal dinner/dance with the other bands in the parade. At the formal, a fellow queen was in attendance: Miss Illinois and Miss Illinois's Outstanding Teen! I introduced myself and we swapped parade stories. They invited me to sit with them for dinner, but I declined and remained with my flag/dance team members. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
